Friday, 23 May, 1941

The destroyers Kashmir and Kelly are sunk while leaving the Crete
area.  German fighters sink five British motor torpedo boats in
Suda Bay.

Hitler orders that no major military activity in the Middle East
will be considered until Russia is conquered.

The Bismarck and Prinz Eugen are sighted in the Denmark Strait by
the Royal Navy cruisers Norfolk and Suffolk.  Although the
Bismarck fires several salvoes at the Norfolk, the cruiser
escapes undamaged and continues to shadow the German ships,
making good use of radar.
