Friday, 30 May, 1941

While the Allied advance in Iraq halts at Ur because of supply problems,
Rashid Ali flees to Iran and Iraq begins negotiations with Britain.

German troops on Crete capture Retimo and Heraklion, while to the south the
Allied evacuation continues; General Freyberg boards ship as well.  Some
9000 Allied troops remain on the island.

Lord Woolton, British Minister of Foods, asks Americans to reduce their
consumption of milk and cream so as to make more of these products
available to British mothers and children.
