[soc.religion.eastern] Tara

What does anyone know about Tara, her aspects and literature on her?
I have seen a book entitled "The Cult of Tara". Does anyone know if
it is any good? I have heard there are different color Tara's, what
do the different colors mean??

Would it be valid to say they are all aspect of the same Tara? or what?

I have found out some recently that she is in both Hindu as well as
Tibetan pantheons, with apparently slightly different attributions (as
far as personalities) in each.

Also the book about the 'Cult..' has more to do with general ritual and
magic in Tibet, it seems, than just Tara, but am still not sure if
it is a good source or not -- may require alot of 'wading' to get through
to the desired stuff...

Thanks.

Try "Bodhisattva of Compassion" by John Blofeld
for a very readable account of the connections
between Kuan Yin, Tara, and a Chinese legend
about princess Miao Shan. It has about 20-30
pages of legends about Tara.
