With respect to the article in net.flames
"who's killing our marines in grenada????"

this brings to mind "rescue from tehran" where
military casualties occurred as a result a crash between
(if my memory serves me correctly) a helicopter and a troop
transport.

I realise these accidents occurred in VERY stressfull situations
but what the hell is happening. Is this type of accident common?
Vietnam vets, what was the incidence of casualties when the enemy
was not even present.

What level of training ,experience do our pilots have ?????
Do they need more ????How safe are the helicopters nowadays as
opposed to say 20 years ago ???

My only experience (admittedly indirect) was from a friend who
was stationed somewhere down south(alabama i believe) who worked
on helicopter maintenance of army helicopters ,so presumably knew
something about them.He told me as soon as he made sergeant that
he no longer had to go up in the choppers as part of his duties
and that when he was close to promotion he admitted being the biggest
boot and butt licker in the army so as his time up in the choppers
would be as little as possible.
