Sorry about that. The Russell date was released later than the Mingus) 14- Ornette Coleman and Horace Silver have both written tunes named "Lonely Woman". Pat Metheny recently covered Silver's version with old Coleman sidemen Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins (oh irony!) 14- Chick Corea first entered the studio on the Stan Getz album SWEET RAIN (Verve V6-8833, 1967) His first record as a leader was TONES FOR JOAN'S BONES on the Vortex label in 1968, but NOW HE SINGS NOW HE SOBS was released first, on Solid State, although recorded later. 15- Actually, two jazz people have recorded Michael Jackson tunes recently: Noel Pointer and Stanley Jordan 16- The tunes they recorded are "Billie Jean" and "Lady in My Life", respectively. 17- Wayne Shorter first hit the big time with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messenger, in 1959 18- Lee Morgan (trumpet), Bobby Timmons (piano), Jymie Merritt (bass), Blakey (drums) and Shorter were in the band. 20- it is false that the Billie in Bird's "Billie's Bounce" is Billie Holiday. The title was for Billy Shaw, an A&R man for Dial. The name got changed to Billie somewhere between the recording studio and the publisher. The response was underwhelming. I am not posting "scores." Those who responded and have forgotten their responses can send me mail, I'll send them scores. Marcel Simon PS. My days on this login are probably numbered.
