COMMENT Draft entry and computer-readable sequence for [1] kindly submitted
            by K.S.Neote, 01-AUG-1990.

Sequence of the deletion junction cloned from a homozygous Sandhoff
patient (infantile form); deletion removes approximately 16 kb of
DNA including the HEXB promoter, exons 1 through 5 and part of
intron 5; the boundary of the deletion junction was within a 29 bp
segment of Alu sequences in 5' flanking region and intron 5,
suggesting that the deletion arose by Alu-Alu recombination; since
the promoter is deleted, there is no detectable mRNa or beta
            subunit protein.
