Gen. Virol. 70, 783-788 (1989) STANDARD full staff_entry COMMENT The nucleotide sequence was determinated by the dideoxynucleotide method of Sangar using double-stranded plasmid DNA as template. Comparison of the potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) 23K ORF with the barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) coat protein gene gave 58.0% similarity at the nucleotide sequence and 47.1% similarity at the amino acid sequence. This and other observations suggested that 23K ORF encodes the PLRV coat protein. On the other hand, there is less homology (31.1%) between the 17K ORFs of PLRV and BYDV at the amino acid sequence.
