[net.cse] Software Protection

mckeeman@wivax.UUCP (04/25/84)

The Wang Institute plans to put on a three or four part
series in software protection during the fall semester.
The format is Monday afternoon lecture/panel presentations
with the public invited (by ticket as we are always
oversubscribed). The plans are:

Part 0 -- lecture: Economics of Software Production	(maybe)
Part 1 -- lecture: Legal Protection of Software (Oct.)
Part 2 -- lecture: Technical Protection of Software (Nov.)
Part 3 -- a panel, consisting of: (Dec.)
	a publicly acknowledged software pirate
a cottage-level producer of commercial software
an industry-level producer of commerical software
	a law enforcement officer

We plan to capture the material on video and printed media
for publication.

There will be appropriate announcements on this media as
well as others when things are in place. My purpose in
bringing this to your attention now is to solicit
suggestions, most particularly of material and participants
for the series. Someone who is a, and would like to speak
for, the publicly-acknowledged software-pirate probably
will have to come from a self-nomination in any case.
