I've found that telling computer-science-related anecdotes (relevant to the current discussion, ideally) is a useful tool in teaching: not only does it help to capture the students' attention and awaken nodding students, but I've found that they tend to remember the anecdote better than they do the rest of the lecture. For this reason, I'd be interested in receiving mail from anyone who has an interesting anecdote they'd like to relate to me. Humorous ones are generally most useful (since students appreciate them more) but I'd also like serious ones which teach a moral or paradigm in an interesting way. The only real restriction is that they involve computers or computer science in some way. The anecdote can be a "real life happening" -- something that actually happened to you or someone you know; a joke -- "once upon a time, a system administrator. . ."; or even historic. Does anyone in net.land have anything interesting? -- Bill Bulko Department of Computer Sciences The University of Texas {ihnp4,harvard,gatech,ctvax,seismo}!ut-sally!bulko "Trust is a must or your game is a bust."
