            NUMBERING
            
            The sequence is numbered from the EcoRI site closest to the
            long/short repeat junction in the HindIII K fragment. All numbers
            refer to the rightward strand.  Where these denote features on the
            leftward strand, the numbers are followed by a C (complementary).
            For features such as AATAAA and promoter elements, only the number
            of the first base is given.

            Listed under this feature are all the major open reading frames in
            the sequence. In general, only the largest open reading frame in a
            particular region is shown.  Where the sequence specified reading
            frames of similar length in more than one phase, the positional
            base preference method of Staden [3] was employed to select the
            reading frame most likely to be coding.  In cases where this method
            did not produce a clear-cut result, all the relevant reading frames
            have been retained.  Reading frames are named according to the
            HindIII fragment in which they start.  For example, HHLF4 is the
            fourth leftward frame starting in the HindIII H fragment.  Reading
            frames preceded by a sequence with good homology to the TATA
            consensus are numbered from the first base of the first Met codon;
            those frames not preceded by putative TATA boxes are numbered from
            the first base of the first codon. Where reading frames are members
            of a homologous family [J. Mol. Biol. 192, 177-208 (1986)], the
            family number is shown.
            
            
            SITEs of possible transcription signals
            
            The positions of possible TATA boxes, CAAT boxes (consensus
            PuPuCCAAT) and SP1 binding sites (consensus TGGCGGPuPuPy) preceding
            major open reading frames are listed.
