            The nuclear genes encoding the major chlorophyll a/b-binding (CAB)
            polypeptides are present in pea as a small multigene family. [Proc.
            Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 81, 2960-2964 (1984)]
            compares sequences with clone pAB96 (see separate entry). Both
            encode mature chlorophyll a/b-binding polypeptides. The differences
            found (7.3% divergence in the coding and 20.8% divergence in the 3'
            noncoding regions) suggest that the major AB polypeptides are
            closely related but distinct [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 81,
            2960-2964 (1984)].
            
            The transit sequence of AB80 is presumed to facilitate the
            translocation of the precursor polypeptide into the chloroplast.
            
            There is some uncertainty about the NH2 terminus of the mature
            protein. It could be either Met-37 (bp 292-294) or Arg-38 (bp
            295-297).
