They are enzymatically and immunologically related, and have identical N-terminal amino acid sequences, but differ in the COOH-terminal region. A 169 bp intron (intron E) is spliced from the large mRNA to generate a smaller mRNA which encodes the G2 protein. Promoter sequences were found at positions 98-105 (CAAT), and 161-167 (TATA) .
