I think a student should not take more than one degree ( B.S., M.S., Ph.D.)
at a single institution in a single field. The main reason is the difficulty in
an institution providing enough different courses for a student to have
meaningful programs for several degrees. In addition, the student would benefit
from seeing different points of view, equipment, and ways of doing things by
going to multiple institutions.
Perhaps computer science could be considered an exception since
Courses change significantly in four or five years
Faculty change in a few years as new faculty are hired for growing
programs
Equipment must be replaced every few years, anyway.
