[net.space] Deuterium

Perhaps it is worth it - heavy water is worth money. I never thought
that 'light' water would be worth something though!

Perhaps we could use the heavy water flushed out as a moderator for this
digest.

At a recent tour of the Pickering Nuclear Power station, one of the guides
stated that a 60 gallon drum of reactor grade D2O was worth $86000. The
plant has a recovery and refining section to try and recover as much heavy
water from spent moderator as possible. Any additional source of Deuterium
has got to be examined, but will it be economical? (No anti-nuke mail, please.)

P.S. Pickering uses CANDU reactors, as do all
Canadian power sites. Expensive, but safer.
