Perhaps it is worth it - heavy water is worth money. I never thought that 'light' water would be worth something though! Perhaps we could use the heavy water flushed out as a moderator for this digest.

At a recent tour of the Pickering Nuclear Power station, one of the guides stated that a 60 gallon drum of reactor grade D2O was worth $86000. The plant has a recovery and refining section to try and recover as much heavy water from spent moderator as possible. Any additional source of Deuterium has got to be examined, but will it be economical? (No anti-nuke mail, please.) John Winterton. P.S. Pickering uses CANDU reactors, as do all Canadian power sites. Expensive, but safer.
