NASA's original plan was to name the 1st shuttle COLUMBIA and the 1st shuttle in space the ENTERPRISE. The TREKkie campaign switched this around.. SIGH... Mike -------

Actually, as I remember it, the original name for the test shuttle wasn't to have been Columbia; it was to have been named Consitution. I don't know if there had been any plans to name an orbiter Enterprise.
