[net.followup] Referencing-- an apologia

Boy, did I step in s**t. Even though my original article was on a
light  note,  I  still got flames (two), and useful remarks about
referencing (two, also).

Anyway, the reseaon for my lightness, was that, as I explained to
someone  via  mail, I was talking to someone at Harvard, and they
were bemoaning that institiution strict anti-plagarism laws,  and
he  was  wondering  (in  a  light  manner  ( :-) ) ) if he had to
footnote every conversation he had, i.e. "Hey John,  did  you  do
that paper  yet  (footnote,  footnote),  it's  due  tomorrow
(footnote again).

Again, Apologies to those whose toes I stepped  on.  My  original
article was in jest.

And-- thanks to all who  did  respond  HELPFULLY,  not  with  "Of
course  dummy",  but with "see Kate Turabian, the style manual of
the 80's"

        doffing my asbestos suit and crawling out of the tub for now,
