Thank you for the discussion on how to get thru a long set of articles to the
one you wish to read. I just called our system manager and found to my
astonishment that indeed the VAX/VMS system running at my college has the
capability to do this, and he thinks most of them will have the same capability
(if they also have a system editor like EVE or EDT). All that must be done is
to call up your mail messages by using READ/EDIT rather than just READ (or
hitting the Return Key; this will automatically put the mail messages in the
editor, and allow you to search for any pattern you wish. It also has the
advantage that, if you comment on anything on the screen, the editor will
permit you to save this (by hitting Control-Z to leave), or you can leave
without saving by using the "DO" key and then typing "QUIT".

It is amazing what I don't know about this system! If I hadn't seen the
discussion on PSYCOLOQUY, I never would have thought to inquire about it.
