We've been having a problem with the bridging configuration in our ciscos and how it relates to our other bridges (DEC, Retix, Allied Telesis, Cabletron). We are running version 8.0 (10) of the cisco firmware, and we're using the DEC spanning tree protocol option. Since our network topology contains routing loops, we need to have our ciscos compute a spanning tree. However, since our ciscos and non-cisco bridges are not really peers, we don't want the ciscos to disable any of our other (non-cisco) bridges (which they attempt to do in the presence of loops). Is there a way to isolate the cisco's spanning tree from the other (non-cisco) bridges?. That is, can we have the ciscos use the only the other ciscos in their spanning tree computations, while the non-cisco bridges use only other non-cisco bridges in their spanning tree computations? Is there a better solution to this problem? Thanks, Dave ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David M.
