[comp.dcom.sys.cisco] Appletalk routing

pmgreen@gamera.cns.syr.edu (Phil M. Green) (04/10/90)

We are having some problems with appletalk thru our
routers. We are unable to see appleshare servers thru
the routers. We are also unable to see other devices
on our own physical network if we use "NET USER" from the
chooser. We can see all devices, appleshare servers
included, if we use checknet or interpoll.

I have captured the packets on our Lanalyzer and found
the only difference to be in the NBP part of the packet.
For applications that work the actual zone name is listed,
for those that do not work an asterisk
is used in place of the zone name. I have been told that
the asterisk is a legal substitute to indicate the zone
you are in. When the router receives a lookup with the
real zone name in it it immediately re-broadcasts that
lookup, when it receives the asterisk instead of the
zone name nothing happens.

So my question, is the router in error or are the MACs or
am I?

We are running GS software 8.0(9) on three AGS/2s all
have the same problem.
