It's been a week now, so I feel a little less apt to rush to a possibly incorrect judgement. I'd been having recurrent but intermittent problems with the 56kb serial line in the 2 weeks since I installed a CGS/2: thousands of carrier transitions and hundreds of serial interface resets, making the line virtually unusable. The telco repeatedly reported that their line was clean. Shortly thereafter, the power supply on the CGS/2 died, and I received a new power supply by FedEx the next day. After replacing it, I haven't had any problems whatsoever--in the past week, one or two interface resets and carrier transitions. While I can't be absolutely sure, it may be that the power supply was flaky to begin with, and had its most obvious pre-failure effects on the stability of the synchronous serial line. At least that's my current voodoo explanation. -- Steve Dyer dyer@ursa-major.spdcc.com aka {ima,harvard,rayssd,linus,m2c}!spdcc!dyer dyer@arktouros.mit.edu, dyer@hstbme.mit.edu
