[comp.dcom.sys.cisco] Tacacs server for VMS+MultiNet is now available

leonard@arizona.edu (Aaron Leonard) (01/09/91)

I've written a little Tacacs user authorization server for VMS +
MultiNet. It was written to be used in conjunction with a cisco
terminal server and has not been tested in any other application.
It has (I hope) the same functionality as the U*x Tacacs server
available on ftp.cisco.com, but it's better 'cause it runs on
VMS ;-).

(We're using it here at the University of Arizona to authorize users
who wish to use a dialup SLIP service.)

Note that the Tacacs protocol sends passwords over the net as plain
text. Thus this authentication server should not be looked at as
providing any particularly serious level of security.

The server can be gotten via anonymous FTP to Arizona.EDU. It's in the
[software.vms.tacacs] directory. VMS V5.4 and MultiNet V2.1 are
required.

Thanks to Greg Satz of cisco Systems for providing the Unix version of
the Tacacs server from which this was adapted.

Send suggestions, bug reports, enhancements, etc. to me ...

Aaron
