The subject line says it all. OK, I already know it means Simple Network Management Protocol, but that's as deep as I go... and I need to go deeper. All the articles I've seen talk about it from a sales perspective, I want to know what SNMP can do for me. Are there any books, articles (FTP'able or otherwise) that explain SNMP? Thanks in advance for any pointers, advice or summary explanations.

Get "The Simple Book: An Introduction to Management of TCP/IP-based
Internets", by Marshall T. Rose, published by Prentice-Hall, ISBN
0-13-812611-9.
There's also a series of RFCs, which the book lists in an appendix. You're
much better off reading the book before you try tackling the RFCs.
