Sorry, I don't know what happened to the rest of my message!
Here is (hopefully) the full message.
I am using an SNMP package to monitor routers on our local net and
the 1st hops to the regionals and I have noticed a problem when walking
the mib trees. I run a command which uses snmp-get-next requestes to walk
the trees.
When I use this command on a cisco with the following sysDescr and romID...
sysDescr.0 =
GS Software (GS2-R), Version 8.2(1)
Copyright (c) 1986-1990 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled Mon 10-Dec-90 13:11 by mlb
romId.0 =
System Bootstrap, Version 4.3(1)
Copyright (c) 1986-1990 by cisco Systems
...the display quits when attempting to access hostConfigName.0
That is I get a display like
.
.
.
netConfigIP.0 = 0.0.0.0
netConfigName.0 =
hostConfigName.0 = 0.0.0.0
hostConfigName.0 =
no response from cisco
However when I use this command on a cisco with the following sysDescr and
romID...
sysDescr.0 =
GS Software (GS2-S), Version 8.1(14)
Copyright (c) 1986-1990 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Compiled Wed 02-May-90 21:11
romId.0 =
System Bootstrap, Version 4.2(4)
Copyright (c) 1986-1990 by cisco Systems
...everything seems to work fine. Is there a bug in the new software or
possibly a change in the MIB?

I can't reproduce that problem here. My programs walk the cisco enterprise tree okay. I suggest you get a packet dump and take a look to see what might be going wrong. Feel free to send any info to customer-service@cisco.com or if you have any questions about what the cisco SNMP agent is doing. Greg
