[comp.dcom.sys.cisco] Summary of PPP interoperability

karen.otto@att.com (Karen Otto) (03/21/91)

I received several requests for a summary of the replies I
received about the interoperability of cisco and Wellfleet using
PPP.

I have talked to Wellfleet and they say that PPP will be available
with their next release, due out in April. They have shown
interoperability with 3Com, Proteon, and ACC, and are due to test
with cisco later this year.

cisco showed interoperability with telebit and 3Com at Interop.

PPP on Proteon will be available ~ 2Q91.

Apparently, existing implementations for PPP are only for IP. It
looks like bridging might be the first new addition, since this
standardization work is farther along than PPP for other protocols
(Novell, DECNet, etc).

I've heard there is a useful relevant article in the Feb 1991
issue of Data Communications.

Thanks to Vicki Ralls, Gary Kunis, and Ed Kozel at cisco, Brad
Turner at 3Com, and Clarence Austin at Proteon.

Karen,
Just to clarify this, the 3Com implementation of PPP supports
IP, IPX, OSI, DECNET phase IV, XNS and bridging.
