Problem Statement:
When configuring the Brouter to do bridging only, It has taken 1 hour for
the interfaces to change from learning to forwarding. Note that we have a
bunch of DEC LanBridge 200's configured for Spanning Tree (802.1). That's
the same as Cisco's (ieee).
Here is our current configuration for the testing we're doing. Only interface's
6 and 7 are active. The rest are defaulted.
Current configuration:
!
no ip routing
!
interface Ethernet 6
no ip address
bridge-group 1
!
interface Ethernet 7
no ip address
bridge-group 1
!
ip name-server 255.255.255.255
bridge 1 protocol ieee
hostname Gateway
!
...
end
One thing I've noticed that's strange is the Spanning Tree timers.
The forward delay under the interfaces seems to have a high value that
is decrementing with time. My guess from what I've seen, is when this
timer reaches 0 forwarding will begin on the interface. A summery of the
Spanning Tree follows.
Bridge Group 1 is executing the IEEE compatible spanning tree protocol
...
Times: hold 1, topology change 30, notification 30
hello 256, max age 3840, forward delay 3840
...
Port 7 (Ethernet6) of bridge group 1 is learning. Path cost 10, priority 0
...
Timers: message age 707687, forward delay 570, hold 0
...
Port 8 (Ethernet7) of bridge group 1 is learning. Path cost 10, priority 0
...
Timers: message age 0, forward delay 545, hold 1
...
My questions are:
Where is this parameter being set?
Is this parameter user configurable?
Is there a protocol problem with DEC Bridge 200 Spanning tree and Cisco?
Am I on the right track for what's happening here?
Has anyone else seen this problem?
