[comp.dcom.sys.cisco] couple of AGS+ chassis related problems

powell@wraith.netops.contel.com (Mike Powell "CFS Net Ops") (05/22/91)

we have been having some bizarre problems with our AGS+s lately and
were wondering if there is anybody else out there that has had/having
the same problem, so we can pool resources (and ciscos) to solve this
problem.

heres is the config
AGS+ w/o ECO
4) MEC6s
1) 4S
20 active ethernets.

Note: all appliciable static proceedures were followed.

Two fridays ago as I was walking out the door the above mentioned
router powered itself off. it powered on, ran for about 5 hours
and shutdown again. It was powered back on monday morning and
ran for about 10 hours until we shut it down and swapped it out.
The unit has been returned to cisco for repair and they have
labeled it "possessed". the excercism is friday. anybody want to come?
(there still looking for the problem)

Our replacement for this router was our own in-house spare with ECO.
all of the cards were transferred from the "possessed" to the normal
one. It ran fine until today (Tuesday 05/21/91). All of the cards and
transceivers were down but the fan was still running. lights off but
somebody home, and noisy at that. :-) I again called cisco and by
pulling cards we were able to determine it appears to be a power
supply loading problem. it behaves like a leaky capacitor, runs for a
while and then discharges and dies.

Maybe we should have excersized the cards before putting them in the new router?

I swapped that one out with the replacement spare cisco sent me and
we've been going great guns now for about 6 hours..

AC power problems have been ruled out. we are on UPS (filtered, isolated,
the works) there are several other (weaker) routers on the same circuit
and they are all fine. room temp is fine ( high 60s)

Any thoughts???? I puzzled. I hope we are not suffering hardware Q/A
problems. :-(
