[ba.market.computers] Miniscribe 9380S - info?

ericz@ucscb.UCSC.EDU (Eric Zamost) (05/07/90)

My 85 Meg SCSI drive recently crashed, and I am looking for a
replacement drive for my IBM-AT compatible. I would like: > 80 Meg,
< 28 ms, durable (I want the damn thing to last this time), and only
secondarily: inexpensive, quiet and small (relative terms, obviously).

The drive which looks best thus far is a Miniscribe 9380S,
330Meg, 16ms, SCSI, full height, new, for $850, from Hi-Tech, Inc.
(The story is that Miniscribe was purchased by Maxtor, and Maxtor
is getting rid of the old stock. The drive would be warranteed by
Maxtor for a year.)

Does anyone have any comments about this drive or any
experience with Hi-Tech, Inc.? The price seems quite good, is there
anything obvious I might be missing? Are there other people who
might like to buy one of these, maybe getting us a quantity
discount?

Also, if anyone has a drive they wish to sell which might work
for me, a SCSI controller worthy of this drive, or a case and power
supply for a full height drive (I might make it external), please
contact me.

Please respond by e-mail if possible, as until I replace my
drive I will not be reading netnews nearly so often as usual.
