[llnl.x] need help with client on UNIX, display on VMS

chapman@lll-crg.llnl.gov (Carol Chapman) (09/26/90)

I would like to run an X client on a UNIX computer and have it display
on a VAXstation 3100 running VMS 5.3. I get the message "Error:
Can't open display" when I attempt to do this. Can anyone tell me
what is wrong?

On the UNIX computer (a VAX), I type:

xtest -display lismm6

xtest is the name of the client; lismm6 is the VMS VAXstation 3100.
On the VAXstation 3100, under the Security menu of the DECwindows
session manager, I have set:

node: crg username: * transport: tcp/ip

crg is the name of the UNIX computer. I am using Multinet for tcp/ip.
I have also tried setting username to my account name (chapman) to no
avail. I have also tried using internet addresses rather than the
computer names; again, no luck.

I anyone can help, I would sure love to hear from you!

thanx,
carol chapman (chapman@lll-crg.llnl.gov)
