I have heard it stated, in this net, that binary and multiple star systems should be excluded from SETI searches. The reasoning is that only eccentric or non-stable orbits are likely to exist in these systems. I would like to hear from someone who really understands these things if indeed that statement is true or a bunch of smoke. After all Jupiter would not need to be too much more massive for it to light its nuclear reaction and I doubt that if it were a small star that it would have stopped mankind from crawling out of the mud.
