Available:

One Alliant 2800 Parallel Processing Supercomputer System.  The processors
run at 40 Mhz.

Includes:

   - One I/O Module that has one i860 processor and supports two VME chassis.
   - Two Processor Modules that have 4 i860 processors each (total of eight)
   - One 64 MB RAM board
   - Two 512 KB RAM cache board
   - Two Fujitsu M2344k 515 MB disk drives (formatted capacity)
   - Two Fujitsu M2382k 790 MB disk drives (formatted capacity)
   - Two VME disk controllers (eight drive capacity)
   - One 16 line RS-232 Mux
   - One 8mm tape drive with SCSI controller
   - One 50 ips 6250 bpi tape drive with controller
   - One tape cabinet (serial number K007-567)
   - One I/O cabinet (serial number K002-151)
   - One processor cabinet pair (serial numbers P504-1012 and B530-1012)
   - One VME chassis
   - One Ethernet controller
   - One system printer
   - One system console


All components purchased from Alliant.  The system has always been on Alliant
maintenance.

The machine is expandable to up to 29 i860 processors, 16 MB RAM cache, and
4 GB RAM.  It can also support a large number of disk drives.

We have had varying success with the machine.  It performs best on double
precision floating point complicated arithmetic.  One i860 processor runs a
CAD application called Biceps eight times as fast as it runs on a
Sparcstation 1.  Typically, one i860 processor ran most of our CAD applications
four times as fast as a Sparcstation 1.  Up to 14 processors can run as a
cluster in parallel on a single job.  The machine dynamically runs jobs in
one or more clusters of varying sizes or on single processors depending on
job mix.

Our primary customer could no longer support the cost of the Alliant but was
pleased with the performance.
