Here at cal poly slo we have a lab in the education department that has 4 apple IIgs in it. They all have video overlay cards and laser players. The lab is used by people who want to be teachers, on the assumption that the iigs is what they will use when they go to work. The professors who run the lab decided they would like to expand the lab to 8 iigs's. When he called the local apple rep, the rep was astonished to learn that they didn't want to get macs. The rep said after all it was a much better platform. The professor replied that since the teachers would be using II's at work. To this the rep replied that schools would probable upgrading to macs also. The problem here is that school tend to be short of funds. Until (if) a low cost (I mean low) color mac is available, the IIgs will still be the computer. Turns out that color and quality sound is pretty important when you are trying to hold a childs attention. After explaining this to the rep, the rep admitted he had no knowledge of the apple II line. So, the professor offered to demo the apple IIgs to him. It's pretty impressive to see interactive video being done on the iigs. The ironic part of this is that the users of the machine have to demo it to a representative of the company who makes that very machine. It's no wonder sales are down. Roy
