[comp.sys.apple2] Public Apology

saa33413@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (Scott Alfter) (03/28/90)

I just discovered a very embarrassing flaw in my .sig, one that probably
caused a great deal of very unintentional offense in this newsgroup. My
.sig is the one with the Apple logo in the middle (hope I'm not making Apple's
lawyers nervous with it :-) ), along with the slogan "Apple II: the power
to be your best!" Someone saw fit to change "best" to "worst," though. I
just discovered the change a few minutes ago and proceeded to remove all the
items I posted to the newsgroups I read; the offending posts are, as far as I
know, all out of the system here at the University of Illinois, but they may
have been networked before I had a chance to learn of the bug (may it be a
virus???). I'm not quite sure how the news system works, so the cancellations
may take effect throughout the entire Internet, or they may not. In any case,
they certainly wouldn't help the matter with mail, as the same .sig is used
for both news and mail.

The point of all this: I'm sorry if any of you were offended by my errant
.sig, but I was unaware until recently that someone else--someone unauthorized
to do so--has altered my .sig. I'm going to take up the matter with the
local ops as soon as possible to clue them in on what could eventually turn
into a security breach that they wouldn't be too happy about.

Apple II Forever!
