NuLib as distributed does not handle some minor changes to the NuFX format. In fact, due to a slight misunderstanding on my part, it doesn't handle GS/ShrinkIt archives which follow the original NuFX format. What I'm trying to say is, NuLib v2.1 ain't gonna work with ShrinkIt v3.0 or GS/ShrinkIt. NuLib v2.2 fixes the misunderstanding, but I haven't updated it to handle some new stuff with filenames (which turns out to be a very fatal problem, due to some weird design decisions on my part). While I'd like to distribute an update, I'm a little nervous about it right now after the flak over NuPak. I sent a letter to Mr. Thompson on Thursday night, but haven't received a response yet. If NuPak is indeed my code in large part, then it will fail miserably on GS/ShrinkIt and ShrinkIt v3.0 archives (and from what I've heard, it does). The question running through my mind is, do I want to help Mr. Thompson make money off of my efforts by distributing an udpate? On the other hand, is not updating NuLib fair to the people who use it legitimately? Sigh. At any rate, I would like to emphasize that I have NOT spoken to Mr. Thompson yet, and I do NOT know whether or not he actually used my code. In this vein, I would appreciate it if somebody with a copy could send it and the documentation to me (ShrinkIt+BinSCII format). I would also appreciate it if somebody who knows him could let him know that I'm trying to contact him (maybe something ate my mail). In-Reply-To: message from nicholaA@batman.moravian.EDU Why 10pm on 3/26? And how can I get a copy? (is it possible to get a copy via ProLine networking?) :)

I'll post it to comp.binaries.apple2 myself when it goes out... probably an hour ahead of time so that it will show up around 10pm at your site. It'll be simultaneously available on genie, america online, compuserve, and bix at about 10pm... I've talked to their librarians and they're going to cooperate on this. :-) BTW -- everyone please realize that ShrinkIt 3.0 is *NOT* GS/ShrinkIt 1.0, ShrinkIt 3.0 is merely a simple rewrite of ShrinkIt 2.1... ;) > Ron andy -- Yeah!

If you arrive before I do, or after I'm gone, well, too bad. The world will simultaneously end on 10-PM EST on 3/26 also. The Great Pepsi bottle sitting in my fridge in the lab has decreed it so. All hail The Great Pepsi... andy, Leader of the newly formed religious order dedicated to human fulfillment in terms of rye bread, bologna & swiss, and The Great Pepsi. Or, maybe, just maybe I can rig it so that my transporter chief beams each and every one of you a copy of ShrinkIt 3.0 on at precisely the right time. Robert: Wait until sometime on tuesday. If it's not right in front of you, go hunt a little... you'll probably find a copy. -- Yeah!

In-Reply-To: message from nicholaA@batman.moravian.EDU Does this mean that you're allowing the use of a mouse now? BTW, can someone tell me if Binscii can be used by a //e? I considered that keeping the program single-load and adding as many features into it as possible was much more important than mouse support. if i add mouse stuff, i want to do it right, and that will require overlays... i'll get around to it eventually, just not now in 3.0 Then again, if you have a gs this won't be a bother... andy -- Yeah!

Well, I never tested to see how file-sizes compared, but in reading the txt files associated with v.3.0 of shrinkit, it seems that Andy has done some little modifications in the way files are shrunk.. this affects mostly small files. From what I read, I assume that the small increase in file size (and therefore transfer time) is more that offset by the reduced time in compression/decompression.
