I NEED HELP!!
I have been pouring over the postings from comp.*.apple[2] for questions/
replies to the following query, but havent found enough to fill my voracious
appetite so here goes (i.e. "I apologize if this has been asked before...")
Lately we have been having a number of problems with some replacement
drives (Jameco 5/14" half heights) in our Apple ][ lab that we can not trace
the problem for. Most common ailment seems to be with Prodos disks: we get
the "Unable to load Prodos" error on disks that we know are bootable. Orig-
inally, we thought the problem was static (sharing of disks between users,
etc.) but the problem still remains after an expensive spraying of the room.
My question therefore comes in two parts: First, has anyone had
similar problems and what have they done, etc. SECOND, and maybe more
important, since I have been out of the Apple ][ market for quite some time
(2 years since I sold my ][e Pro BUT I STILL USE 'EM here at the University)
I need AN EXTENSIVE LIST of Apple ][e (or even GS) Utility programs
(including street/educational pricing if possible) that do one or all of the
following:
FILE/DATA RECOVERY
BAD SECTOR LOCKOUT (SO THE DISK IS STILL USABLE INSTEAD OF GETTING I/O ERROR)
BACKUP W/ COMPRESSION
MEMORY TESTING (SHOWING WHERE IN MEMORY FILES/INTERRUPTS/TSR'S ARE)
FILE MANAGEMENT (LIKE PCTOOLS FOR MACINTOSH)
DOS SHELLS (KINDA LIKE ABOVE)
BEST/WORST UNCOPY PROTECT SOFTWARE (LOTS OF EDUC. PROGRAMS THAT WONT BACKUP
WITH COPY ][ 8.3)
MASTER/SLAVE HARWARE/SOFTWARE (READ FILES/USE PRINTER ATTACHED TO SEP. MACHINE)
ANY OTHER USEFUL UTILITIES WHICH I'M NOT AWARE OF!!???
