Does anyone know of a version of tar for the apple IIgs? I have compress and use it under ORCA, and I was hoping to find tar to run in the same environment. -- || *|#* * | *| *| |*||# |# ||# | ## ||# || Guess what book this UPC is from || *|#* * | *| *| |*||# |# ||# | ## ||# || and I'll be really amazed. All that a tar archive is is a concatenation of files with a header record before each. Most of the info in the header record is of no value in the GS environment. If you just want a convenient way to package several files together into a single file, for example for ease of downloading, you can use much simpler ar-like utilities. In fact I have couple I use when transfering text files between UNIX and my IIGS I'll be glad to send you. Send me e-mail if you want them.

From the address in this post (psuVM) you might notice that I am on an IBM (yes, the brain - damaged company itself) mainframe and don't have TAR utilities on the machine. I've asked around and the consensus is that it does not exist. The kicker however is that many of the files I wish to download are packaged with TAR, and I can't unTAR them, making the programs less than useless. A version of TAR for the GS would allow us with the IBM to still download TARred files and be able to use them. So please, if anyone has TAR for the GS or an IBM mainframe under CMS (VM/XA if it helps), SEND IT TO ME!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Salvatore A.
