The System Savers really are supposed to be quiet. My particular one is quieter than the (soft) high pitched whine of the two monitors I have. It is much quieter than >any< other fan that I run across, for any other computer system. (The IBM RT I'm on now sounds like it has an air conditioner somewhere inside there! From the size of the case, it just might, too . . . ;-) I'm sort of surprised that two people have got fans from Kensington that are noisy enough to be annoying. The perils of modern quality control, and all, I guess . . . . -- Charles William Swiger cs4w+@andrew.cmu.edu

Yes, my Kensington System saver has the same problem.. It is caused by the way the fan is designed, it seems as if it "floats" on a 1 point bearing, and until it gets up to speed, and it's gyroscopic effect keeps it level, it sometime hits it's housing.. But, however, it should be VERY quiet once it is going. and not only is it physically quieter, but since the rom 01 sound circcuitry is so poorly insulated, it makes a tremendous difference in sound quality. Apple's (cheap) fan causes all sorts of hisses and buzzes, especially in my setup, where I have my GS hooked up to my 150 WPC stereo!
