A while ago, there was a discusion about Minix, and people that might want to attempt porting it to the IIGS.. Anybody do anything about it? I've been dinking around in some OS's lately.. Also, I remembered that people were exited about a Mac version of Minix.. Why? The only thing different, would be that it supports some of the same hardware, (ie. the same chips for serial in/out, and a SCSI hard drive using the NEC chip..) Plus Minix would have to provide all of its own graphic routines and so on to draw on the screen for the Mac.. The single biggest problem that I see with having a Minix on the IIGS, is the C compiler. It would be quite a pain to use the oh so buggy Orca/C, and have to run a special utility to transfer its object code over to whatever would be done in MinixIIGS, and the MinixIIGS file system.. Plus of course the pain of having to bootstrap an OS into existance, where it hasn't been before, but that is relatively easy compared to some other problems.. There could be a group of people contributing to the $80 the whole distribution costs from Prentice Hall..
