Recently, Apple wrote an 800k drive INIT for the Macintosh. Its purpose is to prevent the drive heads from being torn off from the drive by the metal shutter of the disk when the disk is ejected. This occurs when the drive head is at a particular track. The INIT is written to prevent this and it seems that the INIT will move the drive head to track 79 before ejecting the disk. It also has been incorporated in System 6.0.3 and above. Question: WHAT ABOUT THE APPLE IIGS??? Since both Macs and the IIGS use the same drive, 800k drives on Apple IIGSes may get their heads torn off too!!! What can we do about it? Has Apple written anything for the IIGS?

AAAAHHH That's what happened to my drive.. I had a 3.5' disk in my drive, and when I tried to eject it, It got stuck. I put the disk back in, then It came out w/no problems, EXCEPT that the drive was shot after that!!! that little mistake cost me $350 for a new mechanism.. If AE's drive had ben out then, I would have bought that instead, though.
