Just a reminder/warning for those of you who still have the original model of the Imagewriter LQ. Apple plans to discontinue the upgrade soon. This is not surprising, since the upgrade only applies to those who have had problems with the older model. Most of the machines should have been traded in by now. One point of confusion that I would like to clear up is the nature of the upgrade policy. Although the newer model LQ has a lot of nice features such as a 40 percent noise reduction this is not the reason for the upgrades. If you waltz into your local dealer and tell him you want the free upgrade you will be correctly informed that it does not exist. If, on the other hand, you relate your intermittent problems with the first and last lines of a document being scrunched you then qualify. I don't know how other dealers handle it but mine sent in the request form for the new printer and then had me bring in my old one when it came. It took a few weeks for the new one to arrive but I wasn't out anything in the meantime. I was not asked for the old ribbon, power cord or software/ manuals so I got new ones in the bargain. If you still have the original I'd strongly urge you to get in on this while you can. ******************************************************************** * * * bob church bchurch@oucsace.cs.ohiou.edu * * * * If economics isn't an "exact" science why do computers crash * * so much more often than the stock market? * * bc * ********************************************************************
