[comp.sys.apple2] Help! / KIWI: Krill's Infocom Word Inspector

groupk@uncmed.med.unc.edu (05/30/90)

Looking for anyone with experience with a program called KIWI: Krill's
Infocom Word Inspector. I got program from the ListServer at UTARLVM1,
where it is listed as file no. 87-00244 in the APPLE2-L directory.
Problems: After dutifully downloading and exec-ing text file, a BIN
file called Kiwi is created. When attempting to run Kiwi, initial
screen display as expected. Title of program is displayed and I am
prompted to insert game disk and press any key. However, it doesn't
matter whether I insert the game disk or not: pressing any key dumps
me into the monitor (into 047A, if I remember correctly). A couple of
sidenotes, then some specifics. The toggle drive command looks screwy--
initially, drive "c" is displayed. Pressing the "D" key to toggle the
drive causes the display to switch and show that drive "@" has been
selected. That's right--my choice of drives is either "c" or "@".
No difference if I try the DOS patch suggested in the program docs or
if I type "PR#1" prior to running program.
Specs: Apple IIe, 128K, enhanced, two disk drives, Prodos v. 1.01(ok
ok, I'm getting a more recent version any day now). Please send advice
to address given in this posting. Will Kiwi crack Beyond Zork?
