[comp.sys.apple2] ProLine <-> Unix

bbs@alchemy.UUCP (BBS Administration) (07/03/90)

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes...

I used to run a ProLine system on my Apple //e and it was really great. Now,
I am running a Xenix system on a '386 (I know, "Boo hiss") and would like
to allow some friends who are running their own ProLine the opportunity
to use me as their network connection. I have a connection with a major
university and it's a local call for me, so I get most newsgroups and all
that and wouldn't mind providing this to other ProLine sites who currently
have to call long distance to get this information.

Now, the problem: has anyone written the software to provide these facilities
for a ProLine <-> Unix/Xenix connection (sending and receiving both news
and email)? I once wrote a program to allow my ProLine to call up this
university (I used to attend there) and download news only. Since this
was the bulk of my network transmissions, it was a great solution (mail
was sent/received much less often and articles posted to networked
newsgroups even lesser, so this significantly reduced my phone bill).
But now, I want to offer a COMPLETE solution for this problem.

I remember, a while ago, someone had a line in their ".signature" file
that said they offer this solution, but at the time, I didn't need this,
oh how I wish I had saved that article. If you have an ideas, or source
code :), please send me mail. Otherwise, I'm going to have to write this
myself and will release it into the Public Domain most likely since I
think others could benefit from it as well.

Please send email if you have an ideas/comments/flames/source code,
