I like seeing the FOR SALE ads just as long as they are kept short and to the point. As a matter of fact I have purchased several items from ads posted here and got some great deals. On top of all of that I dont want to wade through all of the atari, amiga, C64, IBM, and whatever ads to fing the good Apple items. Also please consider those of us here who are restricted to the BITNET realm and do not have access to the misc.forsale.computers or any other of the misc.whatever or comp.whatever groups. Do we have any say in this? Will I continue to see ads? B. Will I continue to see ads? I'll still cross post my stuff for sale here. It was my understanding that the misc.forsale.computers newsgroup was created to help reduce the traffic in the misc.forsale group and so one wouldn't have to wade through people selling homes, cars, etc. to find the computer items for sale. I have been flamed for posting for sale stuff in comp.sys.apple2 in the past by some self-righteous, self-appointed net cops telling me they're not appropriate for this group. I always thought this group was for posting items of interest related to Apple II's. Is Apple II hardware and software for sale not of interest to Apple II users? I know it is to me and I like to see them. I've gotten some good deals that I probably would have missed if they had been posted to another group. So I say, let them keep posting Apple related for sale items in comp.sys.apple2 Ray -- Ray Rankins |(518) 387-7340 | INTERNET: rankins@argentina.crd.ge.com 2 Moonglow Rd. |(518) 583-3320 | COMPUSERVE: 71131,3236 Gansevoort, NY 12831 | | AmericaOnline: RayRankins <insert standard disclaimer here>

If you can't cooperate with the folks attempting to administer USEnet, then leave. It was NEVER appropriate or even LEGAL for you to try to use this technical newsgroup, which is carried over government-owned facilities among others, for commercial purposes. It's also contrary to the intent of any technical newsgroup. This is NOT a small-time BBS, but a very extensive network, on which the cost of propagating personal "for sale" items far exceeds the total value of such items. This is well understood by long-standing net citizens. Get with the program.

Ive seen many a note on here about posting For Sale items. I find them to be very helpfull. I would hope that people would post these articles to this newsgroup. I get enough mail already everyday without having to join another group.I don't want to see things for sale for other computers. I want to see just the Apple ones...and the only place to get such notes is right here. Andy UCI137 at URIACC

Get with the >program. If we are allowed to post to misc.forsale.computers then does it cost more to post to a different newsgroup instead? I doubt it. Let's not get too gung-ho about this government thing, I don't remember many companies posting their catalogs or ads. Not to mention that many of of out here are paying the government every year so I hardly think we are abusing the net by helping each other out with trades and upgrages. If the newsgroup wants the ads in this group why not let them or at least take a vote. And as far as this being a technical newsgroup, sure it is but we are all users too just trying to help each other out. Let's all relax a bit and take in just a little more fiber eh?!? peace -Rich

I doubt it. You're missing one hugely important reason for the structuring of the USEnet newsgroups: To permit individuals or sites to select the set of traffic that they are interested in or permitted to provide. I know there are sites that only support the technical newsgroups. They have chosen to do so deliberately, and it is not for you to decide to foist unwanted categories of traffic onto them.

In-Reply-To: message from gwyn@smoke.BRL.MIL I now carry misc.forsale.computers, but I am not happy with it's creation. The reason is that the vast majority of postings disregard the newsgroup concept and post for sale to EVERY possible newsgroup that might see their product for sale. I see for sale notices in misc.forsale and misc.wanted, even though it's a for sale item. Now I'll see it again in comp.sys.apple2 if it's an Apple item and again in misc.forsale.computers because the person will disregard the request to only post there. Too bad there isn't enough self control "out there." ______________________________________________________________________________ Mike Ungerman |Proline:mikeu@pro-magic Pro-Magic BBS: 407-366-0156 |uucp:crash!pnet01!pro-magic!mikeu 300/1200/2400/9600 Baud 24hrs |arpa:crash!pnet01!pro-magic!mikeu@nosc.mil Apple Tree of Central Florida, Inc |Internet:mikeu@pro-magic.cts.com Orlando, Florida|Voice:407-366-0060|Compuserve:71326,31 Prodigy: JSNP58A
