Hello, world, I am testing out the HyperC disks that I downloaded from wuarchive (file hyperc.pdos.bsq). /CSYS and /FP both got created just fine, and the standard first program (prints "Hello world") worked fine. But I then tried a more complicated program. From page 18 of K&R's first edition of _The C Programming Language_, I entered the simple word counter program. Since I also got help files from some other archive (forgot which), I added a "#define EOF 255" and changed "getchar" to "getchr". "cc" had no objections to this file until the link step, when it complained, "_getchr unresolved" Ok, I did a "sym libc" and waded through that list. No _getchr. So I whipped out the old sector editor and search for getchr. Negative. So I searched for "get". Nothing that I am sure should replace getchr. Was this never meant to be a fully operating installation? (A lousy shareware strategy, if you want my opinion.... "Can I test drive?" "Sure, but you can't use third gear.") Or has there been a replacement since the dox.info file was created back in Feb.? If I can't get such a simple program to compile and run, I wouldn't even think about becoming a registered owner. (See the parenthetical note above.) Especially if registering is the only way to get it to run. I'd rather recycle the disk space. Anthony Veale' Grad.
