[apple 2 people may want to skip this-- it's about preserving prodos auxtypes in the mac file system] I was wondering if there was a generally accepted (or Apple-accepted) method for preserving the prodos file and auxtype when that file is used on a Mac. Apple File Exchange sets the file's creator to 'pdos' and the type to '$C0', I believe, for a prodos file of type $C0. Problem is, this doesn't preserve the auxtype-- and a $C0, auxtype 0 file is very different from a $C0, auxtype 2 file! I've been setting the file type to be one letter followed by the type and the auxtype (the type takes up one byte, the auxtype 2), but this could easily conflict with other already-assigned file types. -- Matthew T. According to the AFP chapter of Inside AppleTalk, you do what Apple File Exchange does. It DOES preserve the auxtype, by setting the mac filetype field to hold the three prodos type/auxtype bytes and a zero. I forget which exact order they are in, though.
