I ran a number of experiments in file transfer last night using kermit, x/y/zmodem and Zlink, kermit, Talk-is-cheap, AppleWorksGS, ATP, ... The kermit problem, and possibly the rest, seems to be that I am entering my office Sun computer via a terminal server and then telnetting over to my Sun. So the device the Sun kermit sees is /dev/ttyp6 or some such network pseudo-terminal and I don't know if that is why kermit does not even begin to tranfer any bytes. x/y/z-modem send 2K or 16K, before it starts giving errors. Can I perform binary file tranfers via this multihop situation or do I need to find a direct inbound CPU? You have to tell the terminal server to ignore certain character. You can probably do this by typing 'term download' before connecting to your sun. On my concentrator, ^X was being swallowed, so the packet numbers were vanishing.
