I'm getting ready to shrinkit and binscii the 5.0.2 system disks and the DMA SCSI disk because people have requested them. Because of the size of these things, I am NOT posting them to comp.binaries.apple2 unless I get gobs of requests. I assume that it is OK to mail people copies of the System Software, but if I do get a lot of requests, is it legal to post them? Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu

Actually it's not technically OK for you to mail them. Mailing counts as distribution of sysytem software, which is something that you need either Apple's permission, or a license from Apple to do. It's similarly not legal to post system software without prior permission from Apple. > >Todd Whitesel >toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu --------------------------------------------------------+--------------------- Vernon Williams | vw3@cunixf Evening Supervisior/Library Assistant | vernonw@dasys1.uucp Thomas J. In-Reply-To: message from toddpw@tybalt.caltech.edu I'm not positive about this, but I do know that GEnie & America Online have specific licenses from Apple to distribute system software. I highly doubt that posting system software copyrighted by Apple here on the nets is legal.

User Groups pay about $100 a year for this privledge to distribute by mail or in person and pay an additional fee if they want to distribute on their BBS. Only the larger groups can afford this.
