[comp.sys.apple2] Problem with Kermit on Viewmax-80 card and Apple ][+

salem@fritz.sri.com (Bruce B. Salem) (07/25/90)

I got Kermit 3.86, some kind soul sent me the disks, and am running
it on an Apple ][+ with a Viewmax-80 card in slot 3 and a Super Serial
Card in slot 2. The software works just fine with the 1200 baud modem
I have. I can get out to another system, just fine.

The problem is that the 80-column card expects to see control codes
to change its default settings. When kermit connects I think it is
resetting the card. Since I need to talk to a UNIX system the card's
default caps-lock needs to be unset. The code to do this is ^A.
Kermit ignores this when I try to do it after a connect and the
quot character doesn't send the code to the card, either.

Anybody got a fix?
