Okay, I have been able to run Soundsmith .7 with no problems. .9 and .94 crash, and I assume it's the "It's Not Really GS/OS 5.0.2 Syndrome" that's causing my problems. I'm getting error $0046 when running Soundsmith .94 on a 1.25 meg 01 GS. Any help? Or perhaps a giving soul would binhex me a copy of 5.0.2? I do believe you need 5.0.2, but since I have been running it since it first came out, and have not checked otherwise, BUT, I did have the same problems with SoundSmith .9 and .94. After some thinking (not a whole lot mind you) I realized that 5.0.2 does not include tools 32 and 33, and that without those SoundSmith will not work. Just grab 32 and 33 from the System Tools disk's System folder and it should work fine... Neil M. Runyon ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neil M. That does it. I'm getting two megs. Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu

Anyways, Soundsmith 0.94 works just fine for me with 5.0(.2?) and 1.25M on a ROM 01. It hold 1-4 MB (using 1 MB chips - $4.70 from the Chip Merchant), and seems to emulate a GS-RAM+, or at least my RamKeeper recognizes it as such, rather than an 'Other' as it does my AST card. OK, seems LOTs of you are having problems running Sound Smith v0.94. I have that version + System v5.02. Seems like almost EVERYONE gets error $0046, which I understand is tool missing or whatever. Oh, forgot hardware configuration... ROM01 GS, 1.25, 80.9M HD, etc. 1.25M is all you really need. NOW, at this VERY instant, get your copy of the System Tools disk, the companion disk to System Disk v5.02. You'll find on the System Tools disk, folder called "System" and in there you'll find "Tools". Copy all the extra Tools (on System Tools) to the Startup disk (System Disk). If you still have problems you might want to check if you have System v5.02. Simplely reboot, press ANY key (but do so very quickly). You'll get the text based startup squence of the GS/OS (you're booting up the Startup/System Disk, just so you know). There should be a list with version #s next to them. The last three that appear should be v3.1, before it asks you to press the <SPACE> bar. OK, lets hope that gets you guys back on track, eh. I'll make this clear though. ROM01 with 1.25M CAN run Sound Smith v0.94, this is a proven FACT. Take it from one has done so, and CAN repeatly. I suppose the only advantage, I have over most of ya is I have an account on America Online to get the LATEST System update and applications like Sound Smith... not mention the HD, which has most of the stuff on both the System Disks. Good Luck... and don't write if, you have an problems... you're suffering from brain damage caused by staying in college too long.

OK, a slightly eralier posting listed all the files I need with dates, sizes, etc. and I have 'em all, same sizes and dates and everything. I also did the 'press a key' thing and what *I* saw was three out of the last four said v03.01, and I'm not sure if that's different from "3.1". . . . Init Manager part 1 v03.00 Init Manager part 2 v03.01 Init Manager part 2 v03.01 ProDOS FST v03.01 Character FST v03.00 When I boot up the disk, I get the intro picture, and the only sound I get is a *bonk* and then nothing. I have noticed that if I type x<RETURN> at that time, my 3= disk is accessed and then *bonk*. After a few of these I am totally hung. Well I got mine to work! I used the installer to copy all system files to a blank disk. Then I copied tool 32 and 33 from the system.tools disk using the finder. Then I deleted Start, Cdevs, Desk.Accs, ExpressLoad, and all the fonts except Shaston 16 and fast.font and font.list. Then I copied all the .94 files over into the System directory and renamed the file sndsmith.sys16 to start. It booted up fine and ran fine too. It gave me the $0046 error when I just copied the files from my harddrive(which has all the tools on it) and set it up the same way. I hope this helps some people. Its a nice improvement over the old one. Andy UCI137 at URIACC PS Anyone know how to make soundsmith instruments? Please tell if u do!

On the subject of version numbers, I just thought I'd mention that the update that comes with the DMA SCSI card bumps several of them to 3.06. Mike BTW-Even with the enhancement all seems to work fine on a stock GS.
