[comp.sys.apple2] Sound Smith - The final chapter

macausla@newton.ccs.tuns.ca (Robert MacAusland) (07/31/90)

I managed to fit all of the files for the new version of Sound
Smith on a single GS/OS disk. However the program crashes into the monitor
when the thermometer is about 9/10 full. Does SSmith require more than 1.25
Mb or am I doing something else wrong?

My Soundsmith (version 0.94) is set up as follows:

     a. Apple IIgs ROM 01 with 1.25Meg
     b. Soundsmith disk with all tools
         including tools #32 and #33
(i'm not sure about the numbers
but they are on the SYSTEM.TOOLS
         disk, TOOLS subdirectory.

and it works just fine!

(the other tools are necessary because the new Soundsmith incoroporates
MIDI options, for which these tools are used)

if you need more help...send e-mail, please...i'll be glad to help!

You don't need tool #33 (videomix), just tool #32 (MIDI interface).

I got Sounsmith .94 up and running on a 1.25 meg ROM 1 with 77K to spare
(and a deskpicture!) last night. There's a new feature called "play zone"
which is damned handy when you are composing.

Soundsmith still needs a real editor, however; the current edit window is too
cumbersome for serious composing.

P.S. Anyone who still needs .94, you can anonymous ftp to tybalt.caltech.edu
[131.215.139.100] and cd pub/apple2. If you don't have ftp, mail me.

Has ANYONE EVER gotten SSmith to work on a ROM01 GS w/ 1.2megRAM and one
3.5" drive? It seems EVEYONE is having problems with this thing. I tried
putting those two tools (31 & 32?) on, but that did't do it. Someone
said you have to INSTALL them, not just copy them into the system folder..
if so, how do you do that ... EXACTLY?

P.S. I even tried putting it on my HD and it crashes just the same.
