I've decided to put some of my summer money towards a new drive (finally!!) but I'm facing the same good ol' decision: do I blow lots of money on a big, FAST (w/ DMA SCSI, which I can get a special 1 time only deal on), luxurious hard drive, or do I save money and buy an AE 3.5 drive, relying on the campus fileserver (when I go back to school that is) as a slow but free HD. Hmm... decisions, decisions. I've already determined that if I want to buy a hard drive, I'm looking at about $400 MINIMUM for an external SCSI 20 meg. If I'm blowing that kind of money already, I might as well get it over with and blow $800 on a 105 meg Chinook with a kick-butt controller (therefore allowing the new SCSI card to scream righteously). I'd appreciate any and all mail on your extra drive experiences. Tell me what you got and how happy you are with it, and try to give me an idea as to how well it works (speed, reliability, etc). Thanks in advance -- do not post, I'll summarize to the net. Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu
